This double bill of dance films takes a look at the way different environments make you feel and how this alters the way you express yourself creatively.

The first film, 'Somewhere Only We Know', is set in a natural environment. The inspiration for the video came from a trip to a local forest. Whilst here we felt a sense of freedom and tranquillity. It seemed natural to move and we felt compelled to improvise in the space, feeding off the inspiration it seemed to be providing, leading to the creation of this piece. Much of the movement within this video is free and fluid not really hitting many set positions but rather, moving through them. The small amount of staccato like movement was inspired by the small, frantic movements of woodland creatures we encountered whilst in the forest. This piece looks at the need for escapism and how nature can provide a short term relief from the restraints of modern life.
The second video takes a look at urban environments. We wanted to explore the contrast in emotion and movement this environment created as a pose to the natural setting of the forest. The movements within this piece are much more angular and sharp representing the structured shapes and lines found in the landscape of built up urban areas. There are some sorter moments within the contact work which are designed to portray the need for support often experienced whilst trying to survive in our fast paced society
Both pieces have been choreographed, costumed, filmed and edited as a collaboration between Catherine Burnham and Eleanor Alpin.
